LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are changing the way we light dollhouses and room boxes due to their small size, low heat output, and very long life — but many of us need a bit of help to understand how to use them. 

For general lighting, LEDs come in warm- and cool-white options but there are no rules about where to use which; it’s a matter of personal preference. Many people choose warm white for living spaces but cool white for kitchens and “work” spaces, or for a more modern look. Either can work outside a window or door to suggest daylight, depending on the time of day you want. Or, you may want to stick with just one color for a consistent appearance. 

LEDs are very bright — too bright, for some uses — but you can use a bit of similar-color paint directly on the diode to soften the light. You won’t need many elements to really light up a small space, but you can run several on just one battery/one switch for larger areas. With individual elements — offered in a variety of sizes — you can even make your own lamps. 

“String” lights are like especially tiny Christmas lights and have the same uses: trees and décor, of course, but the white ones also work as general light if placed above a translucent ceiling, for example.

The 3V lithium battery which is included is replaceable with #2300.

The 3V lithium battery will last approximately 50 hours. The white LED is not replaceable but will burn for about 4,000 hours and put out much less heat than traditional bulbs.
